Scholarships

Scholarships for youth and farmers/ranchers
As part of our information and education program the Conservation District offers scholarships for students and landowners to attend various events.

Some annual events include:

No Till on the Plains Winter Conference
Held in late January.  Scholarships for Sedgwick County residents who are FIRST TIME ATTENDEES are available on a limited basis; contact our office beginning in July for scholarship information for the following January conference. Scholarship funds are provided through the Kansas Department of Agriculture - Division of Conservation and administered locally by the Sedgwick County Conservation District.

Range Youth Camp
Held each July at Camp Mennoscah in Murdock KS (Kingman County) for high school students entering their sophomore, junior or senior year who are interested in plants, livestock or wildlife.  This is a educational event like no other in Kansas! Students will learn range plant identification, plant growth, stocking rates, livestock nutrition, rangeland wildlife management and much more. Scholarships are available for Sedgwick County students! Click HERE for application information.

Lynn Buerki Memorial Conservation Award

Lynn Buerki, known as "Mr. Conservation,"  began serving on the Conservation District board at age 19 in January of 1952. Devoted to conservation practices, especially tree planting, he served on the Board for 62 years . During that time, he planted over 500,000 bare root trees in Sedgwick County. To honor his legacy, a scholarship fund was established in June of 2020. The Lynn Buerki Memorial scholarship is intended to encourage qualified students to increase their interest in agricultural conservation, to obtain technical competence in some phase of agricultural conservation, and to pursue a career in this area of endeavor.
