Milpa Planting

Use Soil Health to Feed Your Neighbors

Master Gardeners at Sedgwick County Extension Demo Garden are experimented with a Milpa Garden. Read Rebecca McMahon's plan for the Milpa Bed in The Demo Garden Blog .

Highlights:
Ryan Speer inspired the Master Gardeners with his Milpa experiences!
Master Gardeners shared/donated all of the harvest from the Demo Garden beds with their community, primarily Common Ground Producers and Growers.
Master Gardeners lovingly tended to the plants in the Milpa Garden Bed even when it was a challenge!
Master Gardeners tried Milpa greens in smoothies accompanied by herb cookies.
Robins built a bird nest in Demo Garden grape vines to successfully raise their family.
A second planting in the Milpa Garden Bed kept living roots in the ground.
