Milpa Planting

Use Soil Health to Feed Your Neighbors

Common Ground Producers and Growers, Inc.  has been providing fresh produce to the food desert and food insecurity areas in the Wichita area for the last 7 years. Their mission is “All are fed. No one is Hungry!”

Highlights:
  • The milpa seed mix was planted with the Sedgwick County Conservation District's 4-foot drill.
  • Granddaughters learn as they water the milpa plantings so that the seeds will sprout.
  • Common Ground Producers and Growers will use animals (goats, sheep, chickens, etc.) to clean up the milpa plants at the end of their season. The animals will help regenerate the soil.
